Cost or revenue
One of the thing you would want to look for in the article is existing graph or table that would
make good graph you cannot cut and paste those graphs, but you can recreate them using
excel. In other words, you got to start from scratch to make your own.
Research Articles
o Read and understand a research study that relates to the business side of
healthcare. (you can type in cosr or revenue to narrow your search)
o Prepare a single summary slide that clearly shows one key finding from that
study.
A single graph with a few words is perfect.
• Present to peers in 3-5 minutes.
• Content cannot be cut-and-pasted.
o Grade is zero with no opportunity to present if the graph is copy and paste
.
Steps
2.1 Find
• Search using tool specialized in PEER REVIEWED studies
o Use -FAU Library- Research Index and Databases to search for peer
reviewed studies on a subject you are interested ( or any reliable research
website)
in. Best resources generally found in: Web of Science, EBSCO, ABI/INFORM.
o Make absolutely certain you checked the ‘peer reviewed’ box in the search
tool.
If in doubt, -ask the FAU librarian-.
o The article should relate to the ‘business side of healthcare’. That might
include money, customers, demographics,
personal or area characteristics related to health.
o Article must be published in the last 10 years.
2.2 Review article
• Review the article.
o Download the article from the library web site. Get it in PDF form.
o Your goal is to produce one slide. That slide should contain one or two
graphs or tables. Graphs are better.
o Therefore, when you review article, look for numbers that might make a
good graph.
o You can not cut-and-paste direct from article.
• Wait for instructor approval
o Reminder. Articles MUST be peer reviewed and you MUST attach a PDF of
ENTIRE article.
2.4 Read, Prepare Graphs, Visuals, Review Drafts.
• Prepare a graph in Excel. No pie charts.
• Submit drafts to instructor for review if you wish.
o Instructor should NOT be the first person you ask.
• Slide should look professional.
o Only ONE font. (Size can vary for headings)
o Insert Excel graphs and screen-grabs as picture (Edit-Special-JPEG)
• Graphs, tables and exhibits cannot be copied direct from article and must be
developed from scratch in Excel, Word or
PowerPoint. You will not be allowed to present using cut-and-pasted research
article content and your grade will be zero.
2.5 Practice.
• You should be able to tell a story in 3-5 minutes.
2.6 Present.
• At the start of the class, instructor will announce order of presenters.
• When your turn comes up, instructor will show your slide and turn on your
microphone.
• You have 3-5 minutes to present.
In addition create a Presentation Script for the single slide you created it
should be 3-5 minutes
